Dudheshawar Heritage Walk
Traversing Through the Streets of Dudheshawar
With the UNESCO World Heritage City tag, ‘aapnu Amdavad’ has many well-known heritage sites, monuments and structures spread across its entire length and breadth. Dudheshwar is one such lesser-explored neighbourhood of the city. It houses many historically important and sites. In addition, these are architecturally superb too.
Upon entry into Dudheshwar, one can find an equilibrium. A righteous mix of the old and the new. Many monuments from Sultan Ahmed Shah’s era rub shoulders with swanky, modern buildings of today. In other words, Dudheshwar exhibits a unique character that is contemporary in nature. There are many stories of how the area flourished during British rule. For the eager to learn, there promises to be more than what meets the eye. The introduction of the drainage system in the city started from here and developed across Ahmedabad. Dudheshwar has an important say in the development of waterways in the medieval as well as the British era.
The area houses the second biggest dome of Gujarat, the DariyaKhan Ghummat. It is an architectural marvel. Achyut Bibi’s( wife of Mohmad Begda’s court man) tomb is inside a medieval mosque here. Along with the Islamic monuments, the area has an equally good number of ancient temples like the Panchmukhi Hanuman and the Mahakali temple.
Inviting all the history seekers and the inquisitiveness hoarders to come and explore this unexplored neighbourhood of Ahmedabad with our Dudheshwar Walk.
