‘Gandhi In Ahmedabad’ Heritage Walk
By Zalak Patel | Published on : January 21, 2020‘Vaishnav jan to tene kahiye je peed parayi jaane re…..’ We are well aware of the most prolific admirer of
these poetry lines of the great poet Narsinh Mehta, yes the guesses are right…. The Father of Our
Nation: Mahatma Gandhi. The baton bearer of India’s nonviolent fight against the British Empire.
That he inspired an entire generation of subjugated Indians to rise and revolt against the English albeit
nonviolently is very well known in history but that the anchors of his fight were laid here, in this city
is something to be explored.
Connect with us to know more about the ‘Mahatma’s non-violent mantra, his base for the Satyagrahas
on the banks of the Sabarmati, the Kochrab Ashram, the famous ‘Charkha’, The Dandi Bridge, the
Mahatma’s penchant for ‘Handloom’ or the ‘Khadi’ which has of late been reintroduced in many avatars
across the fashion domains and much more……
Ever heard about ‘Khadi Paper’? Yes yes, you heard it right. Kalam Khush is the sole hand made paper
manufacturing and retail brand set up on the lines of the Mahatma’s vision of going Swadeshi and being
self-reliant. A cottage industry converting scraps of waste cotton into the paper. Not at all worth a miss. The
next stop en route would be the Toilet Museum ( a novel eatery concept !!).
Witness an amalgamation of the ‘New’ and the ‘Old’ as you stroll across the Satyagraha Ashram on the
banks of the Sabarmati River and feel the serenity as well as the reverberations of the Gandhian way of
life.
The Gandhian edifice standing tall across the swanky riverfront and winds of change..
Come….be a part of the ‘Saint of the Sabarmati’s legacy and allow us to soak you in history……..Come to us.
